As stated by the New York City Department of Health, pigeon droppings can carry several diseases, including Histoplasmosis, Cryptococcosis and Psittacosis. Knowing this, many restaurant owners have already adopted bird control systems as their main source of preventing against bird infestations.

Steve Stork, one of the owners of Racks Bar and Grill in Nevada, has been facing a serious bird problem. Pigeons have infested the neighborhood and are hurting his business.

“Stork said he frequently finds bird droppings on the sidewalk in front of his business and occasionally dead birds. He said bird droppings have landed on customers and others walking past the former Plaza Hotel, near Racks on Aultman Street.

Stork said he washes down the sidewalk because of the problem.

He asked the council to condemn the closed neighboring Plaza Hotel building.

‘The birds are using it as a nesting and roosting place,’ Stork said.

‘We want to make downtown Ely a viable place to do business,’ he said.”
